Pediatric Services

Lakes Speech & Language Pathology (Lakes SLP) provides screening, evaluation, and treatment for a variety of medical and communicative diagnoses. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. We will work with you and your child to provide a program that works best for you. Both in-office and teletherapy options are available for your child.

What skills do speech-language pathologists work on?

  • Expressive & Receptive Language: vocabulary, increasing length of phrases and sentences, requesting, following directions, answering questions, gestalt language processing, etc.

  • Articulation & Phonological Skills: speech clarity, sound patterns

  • Stuttering & Cluttering: building confidence, education, reducing avoidances

  • Reading Comprehension/Pre-Reading Phonology Skills: rhyming, segmenting, blending, visualization, etc

  • Cognition: attention, organization, memory, executive function, study skills etc.

What can I expect from an evaluation at Lakes SLP?

An evaluation at Lakes SLP will start with your child getting acclimated to our office by completing an independent play activity, depending on their age and interests (playing with toys, coloring, drawing, etc) while the clinician gathers background information from the parent(s) and/or caregiver(s). Depending on the areas of concern, we will complete a standardized assessment, either in an office or playroom environment. This could include your child naming pictures, creating sentences, following directions, reading a paragraph and answering questions, imitating words, and more. This will help us understand if there is a delay or impairment compared to same-age peers, and if so, how severe that delay or impairment is. This will help us all determine if treatment is necessary, how often to schedule sessions, and how much time at home could be dedicated to this skill. We try to keep it as laid-back as possible and allow time for breaks if needed! After the evaluation, the clinician will write a report that can be made available upon request.

How do I schedule an evaluation or screening?

You can call or email to schedule an evaluation. Your call will be returned within 24 hours to discuss how we can best prepare for our first appointment.
